Peace and grace in the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Luke 5:33-39is about 'fasting'.

Luke 5:33-35
5:33. Then they said to Him, "Why do the disciples of Johnfast often and make prayers, and likewise those of the Pharisees, but Yours eat and drink?"
5:34. And He said to them, "Can you make the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them?
5:35. "But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them; then they will fast in those days."

There are three groups of people that are related to fasting as follows:
  1. The Pharisees, those who keep the law.
  2. The disciples of John the Baptist. John the Prophet is the last prophet.
He represents transition from the Old Testament (the time of law) to the New Testament.

  3. The disciples of Jesus, those who represent the time of New Testament.
Being checked, there are a lot of things that have not been well pleasing before Godin the fasting of Israel (the Pharisees and the disciples of John) from the time of law up to transition time. Those are as follows:
In the New Testament, God shows the true fast.
Matthew 6:16-17
6:16. "Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
6:17. "But you, when you fast,
anoint your headand wash your face,

There are two signs of true fasting prayer as follows:
  1. Washing our face with water.
Face is same as heart. Washing face means heart is purified by the Word of God.

  2. Anointing our head.
Head is same as mind. Anointing head means our mind is anointed by Holy Spirit.
If they are combined, true fasting prayer gives greater opportunityto the Word of God in the anointing of Holy Spirit which is same as the word sharper than any two-edged sword to purify our heart and mind from hidden things inside.

Hebrews 4:12-13
4:12. For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two–edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
4:13. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

When fasting, we have to hear the Word a lot, read the Word, and pray. On the contrary, it is fine to hear the Word and pray when we do not fast.

In the fasting prayer, the Word sharper than any two-edged sword purifies our heart from two things as follows:
God blesses us.
