Peace and grace in the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Generally,
Luke 5refers to The Altar of Burnt Offerings.
In the past, animals were sacrificed for forgiveness of sins.
Now, we do not need it anymore because it has been fulfilled by the cross of Christ.
The cross of Christ is the power of God to forgive our sins and heal the disease.
Luke 5:12-16is about "
Jesus heals aleper".
Luke 5:17-20
5:17. Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
5:18. Then behold, men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay before Him.
5:19. And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus.
5:20. When He saw their faith, He said to him, "Man, your sins are forgiven you."The spiritual meanings of being paralyzed are as follows:
- The sinners.
- People who fall into sin of uncleanness in the marriage, those are as follows:
- Fall into sin before marriage.
- Having affair with other man/woman after marriage.
- Sin of marrying after divorce,
- Polygamy/polyandry,
- Homosexuality and lesbianism.
- Disobedience to parents.
Spiritual paralysis results in everlasting perdition. We cannot enter everlasting kingdom of Heaven.
In
Luke 5:20, Jesus forgives the sinner who believes (has faith) in Him.
Faith comes from hearing the Word. When hearing the Word, our heart believes and mouth confesses our sin to God and others. If we are forgiven, do not sin anymore.
Luke 5:21-26
5:21. And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, "Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
5:22. But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, He answered and said to them, "Why are you reasoning in your hearts?
5:23. "Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, 'Rise up and walk’?
5:24. "But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earthto forgive sins" ––He said to the man who was paralyzed, "I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house."
5:25. Immediately he rose up before them, took up what he had been lying on, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.
5:26. And they were all amazed, and they glorified God and were filled with fear, saying, "We have seen strange things today!"Why does Jesus have power to forgive the sinner in the world?1 John 4:10
4:10. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Sonto be the propitiation for our sins.
Because Jesus is sent to the world as innocent man to be atonement offering for our sins. Jesus died on the cross and He can forgive our sins by His blood.
Actually, the wage of sin is death. But, why does Jesus not punish the sinner but forgive him?
Psalms 103:8-14
103:8. The LORD is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.
103:9. He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever.
103:10. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities.
103:11. For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;
103:12. As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
103:13. As a father pities his children, So the LORD pities those who fear Him.
103:14. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.
- Because Jesus loves the sinner.
- Jesus always remembers that we are dust, flesh and blood men who are in infirmity and weaknesses.
As long as we are still alive in this world and have mortar body, Jesus has power to forgive our sins by His sacrifice on the cross.
Luke 5:18-19
5:18. Then behold, men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay before Him.
5:19. And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus.
The efforts of the paralytic to meet Jesus to receive remission of sin are as follows:
- Horizontal way= the effort/willingness of man to fulfill necessities of life such as looking for money, knowledge, recovery, et cetera.
But, horizontal way cannot reach Jesus.
- Vertical way= the way of faith to meet Jesus.
Do not become desperatewhen there is no way, but deadlock and closed mind.
This is the time for our faith, that we enter the way of God namely the way of faith.
Horizontal and vertical way forms
the cross.
The way of cross is the meeting between the willingness of man to be healed/saved and faith from God.
Effort + faith= miracle.
Spiritual miracleis renewal of life from carnal men to spiritual ones like Jesus. The renewal of life is started from confessing our sin to God and others. If we are forgiven, do not sin anymore, but live in righteousness. It refers to salvation.
If spiritual miracle happens, the
physical onewill happen too, the impossible thing will become possible.
For example that the cross has power to change our life and makes impossible thing become possible is the criminal who is crucified next to Jesus.
The criminal who has hard heart is changed to have broken heart by the cross, that he can confess his sin. It means to confess that we are just mortar and we will get ambience of Paradise where everything exists without any tear because it has been wiped by God.
If Jesus comes a second time, we will change to become as glorious as He is. We become the bride of God who is ready to greet His second coming.
God blesses us.
