Peace and grace in the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Luke 11:29-32
11:29. And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, "This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet.
11:30. "For as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation.
11:31. "The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.
11:32. "The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.
God reveals two signs as follows:
- The sign of Jonah the prophet to reveal God's power.
- The wisdom of Solomon to reveal the one of God.
ad. 1. The sign of Jonah the prophet.
Jonah was thrown into the sea and a great fish swallowed him. Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days, and then he was vomited onto dry land. It refers to
the death and resurrection.
In the beginning, Jonah suffered because he was against God, not because of experiencing death and resurrection.
Jonah had been told to go to Nineveh, but he went to Tarshish.
After Jonah realized and confessed his sins, his sorrow was changed into the experience of death and resurrection with God
The steps of the death of Jonah are as follows:
- Jonah was willingly thrown into the tempestuous sea.
Jonah 1:12, 15
1:12. And he said to them, "Pick me up and throw me into the sea; then the sea will become calm for you. For I know that this great tempest is because of me."
1:15. So they picked up Jonah and threw him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging.
Jonah willingly suffered in the flesh to do the will or the word of God.
- Jonah was swallowed by a great fish.
Jonah 1:17
1:17. Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
The fish refers to Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit grabbed Jonah so he was totally in His influence and he was taken to the place that God wanted.
- Jonah prayed to the Lord.
Jonah 2:1-9
2:1. Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish's belly.
2:2. And he said: "I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, And He answered me. "Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, And You heard my voice.
2:3. For You cast me into the deep, Into the heart of the seas, And the floods surrounded me; All Your billows and Your waves passed over me.
2:4. Then I said, 'I have been cast out of Your sight; Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.'
2:5. The waters surrounded me, even to my soul; The deep closed around me; Weeds were wrapped around my head.
2:6. I went down to the moorings of the mountains; The earth with its bars closed behind me forever; Yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O LORD, my God.
2:7. "When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple.
2:8. "Those who regard worthless idols Forsake their own Mercy.
2:9. But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
Jonah experienced the death and resurrection until his flesh did not sound anymore.
Jonah followed the will or the word of God and he was in the anointing of Holy Spirit, so he was encouraged to worship God delightfully. As a result, he experienced the power of resurrection.
Jonah 2:10
2:10. So the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
The results of the power of resurrection are as follows:
- All problems are finished by God.
- Jonah was used by God to preach the word with the sign of the death and resurrection. It is the same as the sign of blood. As a result, the king and the people of Nineveh believed in God. They repented and finished their sins, so they were saved.
Luke 11:32
11:32. "The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgmentwith this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.
The men of Nineveh were not judged, but they judged with God. Now, if we want to finish all of our sins, we will not be judged or punished, but we will judge with God.
The experience of the death and resurrection of Jonah is fulfilled by Jesus through His death and resurrection on the cross.
Romans 4:25
4:25. who was delivered upbecause of our offenses, and was raisedbecause of our justification.Jesus dies on the cross to bear the punishment and curse of sin, so He can
release us from sins. Jesus is buried in the belly of the earth for three days, and then He is raised to
justify us.
The power of resurrection justifies all men who have been destroyed by sins.
We must follow the example of Jesus as follows:
- The experience of death.
1 Peter 4:1
4:1. Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
The experience of death means that we willingly suffer in flesh with Jesus to stop sinning and repent.
It is the same as being silent.
Repenting is started from not lying.
Jeremiah 9:5
9:5. Everyone will deceive his neighbor, And will not speak the truth; They have taught their tongue to speak lies; They weary themselves to commit iniquity.
Keeping lying means wearying ourselves to commit iniquity and being unable to repent. We become the same as Satan, the father of liars who is unable to repent.
- The experience of resurrection.
1 Peter 4:2
4:2. that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
The experience of resurrection is that we live in righteousnessin all aspects of our life. It is the same as being calm.
Isaiah 32:17
32:17. The work of righteousness will be peace, And the effect of righteousness, quietnessand assurance forever.
So, the experience of death and resurrection is the same as
being silent and calm. It is the same as stretching out our hands to God or worshipping Him.
In the last days, our life is like facing the storm, wind and waves that are blown by Satan in the sea of the world.
The wind and wavesrefer to the temptation in all things up to the impossible ones, sins up to the peak, and false teachings. We can face it by keeping silent and calm.
As a result, God will stretch out His hands with the power of resurrection to calm all wind and waves.
Mark 4:394:39. Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. All impossible problems will be finished by God.
God is able to give successful and beautiful future.
We are used in the ministry of the building of the body of Christ.
We experience happiness in God.
We are purified and renewed up to perfection when Jesus comes a second time. We enter the haven of peace, New Jerusalem.
God blesses us.
