Peace and grace in the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Luke 8 refers to the Golden Candlestick. In Luke 8, there are seven stories that refer to seven lamps on the Golden Candlestick and they are as follows:
- Many Women Minister to Jesus (Luke 8:1-3).
- The Parable of the Sower (Luke 8:4-15).
- The Parable of the Revealed Light (Luke 8:16-18).
- Jesus’ Mother and Brothers Come to Him (Luke 8:19-21).
- Wind and Wave Obey Jesus (Luke 8:22-25).
- A Demon-Possessed Man Healed (Luke 8:26-39).
- A Girl Restored to Life and a Woman Healed (Luke 8:40-56).
We discuss the fifth story namely
Wind and Wave Obey Jesus.
Luke 8:22-25
8:22. Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side of the lake." And they launched out.
8:23. But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy.
8:24. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, "Master, Master, we are perishing!" Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm.
8:25. But He said to them, "Where is your faith?" And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, "Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!"
God invites His disciples to cross over to the other side of the lake.
It refers to the yearning of God that we can use our body to worship Him until we reach the haven of peace, the haven of New Jerusalem or eternal kingdom of Heaven.
Crossing over to the other side of the lake (serving and ministering) is a
sacrifice and struggle. It means as follows:
- Everything must be sacrificed such as time, effort, money, thoughts and feelings to serve and ministry God, except true teaching Word.
- We fight against challenge and obstacle, namely the windstrom from Satan the trinity that has the power of death as follows:
- The wave means as follows:
- Problems in all things up to the impossible ones that make us get desperate and disappointed and leave our faith.
- Sins up to the peak of sin, namely sin of eating-drinking and marrying-giving in marriage.
- Temptation in the form of torment and murder in the age of antichrist, so the sons of God worship him.
- The wind. It means false teaching.
1 Timothy 4:1-2
4:1. Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spiritsand doctrines of demons,
4:2. speaking liesin hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,
False teaching is also deceiving spirit and lying spirit.
False teaching makes the sons of God not willingly shepherded.
1 Peter 2:25
2:25. For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
One who is not shepherded will go astray. He does not have the Overseer of souls, even loses the way to New Jerusalem.
2 Timothy 4:3-4
4:3. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
4:4. and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
A lot of peopledo not want to hear the Word but the fables.
It means that they have not been mature in spirituality yet. Besides the fables, people like to hear joke, so the worship is not in the temple of God anymore, but Dagon's or the place of idol.
Judges 16:23, 25
16:23. Now the lords of the Philistines gathered together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagontheir god, and to rejoice. And they said: "Our god has delivered into our hands Samson our enemy!"
16:25. So it happened, when their hearts were merry, that they said, "Call for Samson, that he may perform for us." So they called for Samson from the prison, and he performed for them. And they stationed him between the pillars.
If our worship contains fable and humor, three thousand people will die.
The number of three thousand refers to two thousand (the Holy Place) and a thousand (the Most Holy Place). So, three thousand people die means one cannot live in holiness and perfection, but is left when Jesus comes a second time.
Satan breathes the windstorm to make our life boat drown, so we do not get the haven of peace or New Jerusalem.
God helps by
sleeping. It means He must die.
Philippians 2:8-10
2:8. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
2:9. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,
2:10. that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
Jesus becomes obedient to the point of death on the crossto defeat Satan the trinity as the source of the windstorm.
As for us, we must do these things.- Believing and being obedient.
Luke 8:25
8:25. But He said to them, "Where is your faith?" And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, "Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!"
The windstorm obeys God, and so do we. We have to believe and obey God, starting from obeying our physical parents.
Genesis 6:5-6
6:5. Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6:6. And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
Every intent of the thoughts of man's heart is only evil and unclean continually, so his deed and word make the heart of God grieved, the one of parents sore and the one of others hurt.
We have to be reborn, so we have a good conscience.
1 Peter 3:20-21
3:20. who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.
3:21. There is also an antitype which now saves us––baptism(not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good consciencetoward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
Water baptism changes the heart that tends to do evil and unclean continually into a good conscience.
- Jesus must always be in our boat.
Whether our boat drowns or not is determined by we have Jesus inside our life boat or not. It is not determined by the big or small wave.
Jesus is in our life boat means we always minister Him faithfully and fervently.
If we are faithful and fervent in spirit, God gives the key of Davidfor us.
Revelation 3:7-8
3:7. "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, 'These things says He who is holy, He who is true, "He who has the key of David, He who opensand no one shuts, and shutsand no one opens":
3:8. "I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.
The usefulnesses of the key of David are as follows:
- Opening the door of way out from all problems up to the impossible ones and opening beautiful and happy future.
- Recovering our state from fall, failure and drowning in sin. The key of David also recovers our marriage and household. Failure is changed into success.
- Giving victory over Satan the trinity like David won over Goliath.
Philippians 2:10-11
2:10. that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
2:11. and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Our victory over Satan the trinity is proved by controlling our tongueto worship God until we do not stumble in word.
James 3:2
3:2. For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.
If we can control our tongue, we have already been in the God's mercy and goodness.
God lifts our life up to eternal one.
Revelation 19:6-7
19:6. And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, "Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!
19:7. "Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready."
God blesses us.
