Peace and grace in the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Luke 8 refers to the Golden Candlestick. In Luke 8, there are seven stories that refer to seven lamps on the Golden Candlestick and they are as follows:
- Many Women Minister to Jesus (Luke 8:1-3).
- The Parable of the Sower (Luke 8:4-15).
- The Parable of the Revealed Light (Luke 8:16-18).
- Jesus’ Mother and Brothers Come to Him (Luke 8:19-21).
- Wind and Wave Obey Jesus (Luke 8:22-25).
- A Demon-Possessed Man Healed (Luke 8:26-39).
- A Girl Restored to Life and a Woman Healed (Luke 8:40-56).
We discuss the sixth story namely
A Demon-Possessed Man Healed.
Satan possesses humans' heart and mind or soul and spirit.
There are three states of demon-possessed son of God, namely evil and unclean spirit, and they are as follows:
- One is like a man from Gadarenes in the tombs.
Luke 8:27
8:27. And when He stepped out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city who had demonsfor a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs.
The tombs mean the extension of the hand of death. For us now, the physical meaning is discotheque, movie theater, et cetera.
- One is like swine.
Luke 8:33
8:33. Then the demons went out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the lake and drowned.
- One is like those who fed the swine.
Luke 8:34
8:34. When those who fed themsaw what had happened, they fled and told it in the city and in the country.
It means one looks for physical things and chooses swine more than Jesus and the person who is saved by Him.
Now, we learn about
one who has been healed.
Luke 8:38-398:38. Now the man from whom the demons had departed begged Him that he might be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying,
8:39. "Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you." And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.One who has experienced a miracle from God must testifybecause of the reasons as follows:
- If he does not testify, he will not experience the next miracle.
- If he does not testify, he will be guilty of blood to others who need it.
There are two kinds of God's miracle as follows:
- Physical miracle.
It means God's help physically. For example, God's help in study, disease, work et cetera.
It must be testified, so the faith of others who are in the same problem can be strengthened and they do not leave the faith.
- Spiritual miracle.
It means renewing or we are released from the bond of wicked and unclean spirit, from wearing no clothes, not being in the right mind, and not living in the house to being clothed, in the right mind, and sitting.
The process of life renewal from carnal men to spiritual ones like Jesus isas follows:
- Water baptism.
Romans 6:2, 4
6:2. Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?
6:4. Therefore we were buried with Himthrough baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the deadby the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
The term of water baptism is to die to sin or to repent.
The implementation of water baptism is one who has died to sin or repented must be buried in water with Jesus and come out or rise from water with Him to receive new life, namely heavenly one.
- The renewing by true teaching Word.
Ephesians 5:25-27
5:25. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
5:26. that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
5:27. that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
After being renewed in the water baptism, we must dive in the water of true teaching Word, so we are purified and changed up to being perfect like Jesus.
The renewing is started fromthere is no lie, but speaking truth and good words, and becoming blessing for others.
Ephesians 4:23-25
4:23. and be renewedin the spirit of your mind,
4:24. and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
4:25. Therefore, putting away lying, "Let each one of you speak truthwith his neighbor," for we are members of one another.
The testimony contains the things as follows:
- What God has done by true teaching Word, Holy Spirit and His love.
- What God has done physically.
Luke 8:39
8:39. "Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you." And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.The direction of the testimonyis as follows:
- Becoming the light in the house.
Luke 8:38-39
8:38. Now the man from whom the demons had departed begged Him that he might be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying,
8:39. "Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you." And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.
We obey parents, so we become the light in the house.
- Becoming the light in front of people.
We become a witness for everyone in the church, inter-shepherding, office, school, roadway and anywhere.
- Becoming the light at the city on the mountain.
The city on the mountain is New Jerusalem. We become the light of the world.
God gives power to testify, namely the power of Holy Spirit.
Acts 1:81:8. "But you shall receive powerwhen the Holy Spirithas come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."If Holy Spirit controls and anoints us, we will testify although we are in the impossible situation. When hatred without a cause comes to us, we are still able to be a witness if Holy Spirit helps us.
John 15:25-27
15:25. "But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated Me without a cause.’
15:26. "But when the Helpercomes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.
15:27. "And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.
We must bear witness anywhere, anytime and in any situation, even when we are against hatred without a cause.
If we do not testify, we surely deny or blaspheme God.
Holy Spirit is as follows:
- The Spirit of comforter or helper.
Holy Spirit makes us not disappointed and desperate against anything.
- The Spirit of truth.
Holy Spirit gives power to us, so we keep righteous whatever we face. We keep becoming the light or the witness of God.
- The Spirit of helper.
Holy Spirit will help us in due time. He finishes all of our problems up to the impossible ones.
- The Spirit of glory.
1 Peter 4:14
4:14. If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of gloryand of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.
Holy Spirit gives the happiness in the middle of sufferings for Jesus. He performs miracle to change us from glory to the greater one, until we become as glorious as Jesus.
Without Holy Spirit, we are powerless like orphans and useless.
John 14:16-1814:16. "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever––
14:17. "the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
14:18. "I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.Without Holy Spirit, we are powerless, we do not have origin and experience renewal of life, but keep living in blood and flesh.
Without Holy Spirit, we are useless, we cannot be used by God to testify, but making His heart grieved, embarrassing Him and making the heart of parents sore.
John 6:63
6:63. "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
Otherwise, we will be helped in due time if we have Holy Spirit, although we are in the powerless state and have nothing.
God blesses us.
