Peace and grace in the love of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Luke 8 refers to the Golden Candlestick. In Luke 8, there are seven stories that refer to seven lamps on the Golden Candlestick and they are as follows:
- Many Women Minister to Jesus (Luke 8:1-3).
- The Parable of the Sower (Luke 8:4-15).
- The Parable of the Revealed Light (Luke 8:16-18).
- Jesus’ Mother and Brothers Come to Him (Luke 8:19-21).
- Wind and Wave Obey Jesus (Luke 8:22-25).
- A Demon-Possessed Man Healed (Luke 8:26-39).
- A Girl Restored to Life and a Woman Healed (Luke 8:40-56).
We discuss the third story, namely
The Parable of the Revealed Light.
Luke 8:16-188:16. "No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lampstand, that those who enter may see the light.
8:17. "For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light.
8:18. "Therefore take heed how you hear. For whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he seems to have will be taken from him."
The parable of the revealed light refers to sons or servants of God who live in the light and shine.
The terms to shine or become light are as follows.
- Nothing is secret that will not be revealed (verse 17).
- Taking heed how we hear (verse 18).
When we hear the Word, it is the decisive time whether we become light or dark.
We have to keep our light to shine, because five foolish virgins take no oil with them, so they cannot greet when the Bridegroom comes.
The lamp goes out because of the things as follows:
Luke 8:168:16. "No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vesselor puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lampstand, that those who enter may see the light.
- Covering it with a vessel.
A vessel means as follows:
- Our daily need, namely food, drink and cloth.
Matthew 6:31-33
6:31. "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?’ or 'What shall we drink?’ or 'What shall we wear?’
6:32. "For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
6:33. "But seek first the kingdom of Godand His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
The Gentiles are often busy to look for their daily need, namely food, drink and cloth.
How can a vessel make the lamp go out? If we worry about our daily need, we will be unfaithful (lazy), even we cannot worship God, and we cannot live in righteousness (wicked). For example, because of worry, we steal and cheat.
This kind of life becomes wicked and lazy servant of God, so he becomes unprofitable servant and enters the outer darkness, dark future up to the darkness of the hell.
Matthew 25:26, 30
25:26. "But his lord answered and said to him, 'You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed.
25:30. 'And cast the unprofitable servantinto the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
The right thing is we seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
It means that we must prioritize God, be faithful in ministry and true, namely we become faithful and true servant of God.
If we are faithful and true, all things shall be added to us by God. The plus is the sign of the cross which means we live by God's mercy, so we live abundantly and give thanks everywhere, anywhere and in any situation.
- Sin of eating-drinking.
The lust of flesh is often dissatisfied and at last, he looks for satisfaction by doing sin of eating and drinking.
- Putting it under a bed.
The bed refers to sin of marrying-giving in marriage, namely sexual sins with all its kinds, including mixed-marriage (intermarriage, light with dark), marrying after divorce up to free sex.
In the beginning of marriage, we have to keep both righteousness and holiness to God and country.
In the journey of marriage, we have to keep both righteousness and holiness against infidelity.
Sin of eating-drinking and marrying-giving in marriage are targeting the servant of God, especially the youth.
Zechariah 5:5-11
5:5. Then the angel who talked with me came out and said to me, "Lift your eyes now, and see what this is that goes forth."
5:6. So I asked, "What is it?" And he said, "It is a basketthat is going forth." He also said, "This is their resemblance throughout the earth:
5:7. "Here is a lead disc lifted up, and this is a woman sitting inside the basket";
5:8. then he said, "This is Wickedness!" And he thrust her downinto the basket, and threw the lead cover over its mouth.
5:9. Then I raised my eyes and looked, and there were two women, coming with the wind in their wings; for they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the basket between earth and heaven.
5:10. So I said to the angel who talked with me, "Where are they carrying the basket?"
5:11. And he said to me, "To build a house for it in the land of Shinar; when it is ready, the basket will be set there on its base."
Genesis 11:2, 9
11:2. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they dwelt there.
11:9. Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.
A woman refers to the church of God. The woman in the basket means the church of God whose light goes out and being thrust by the wings of antichrist. Her life is hung between earth and heaven.
The woman in the basket goes to the land of Shinar, namely Babel. Babel means uncleanness and unfaithfulness, living in curse and perishing forever.
Two examples of hung life between earth and heavenare as follows:
- The chief baker.
Genesis 40:16-20
40:16. When the chief bakersaw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, "I also was in my dream, and there were three white basketson my head.
40:17. "In the uppermost basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, and the birds ate them outof the basket on my head."
40:18. So Joseph answered and said, "This is the interpretation of it: The three baskets are three days.
40:19. "Within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head from you and hang you on a tree; and the birds will eat your flesh from you."
40:20. Now it came to pass on the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants; and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.
Three white baskets that are eaten by the birds have connection with the seed of the Word that falls by the wayside.
It means as follows:
- The heart walks about, namely one does not appreciate the Word of God in three kinds of main service.
If we do not pay attention to the Word, but joke, our life will be hung.
- Walking feet, namely one is not shepherded.
Consequently, his life is dry and dead spiritually, he falls into sins and is cursed to perish.
- Absalom.
Absalom has a lot of potencies, but he does not obey, even he is rebellious against the right parent.
If we are rebellious against the physical parents, we will surely do it to spiritual and heavenly ones.
2 Samuel 18:9
18:9. Then Absalommet the servants of David. Absalom rode on a mule. The mule went under the thick boughs of a great terebinth tree, and his head caught in the terebinth; so he was left hanging between heaven and earth. And the mule which was under him went on.
If we do not obey the right parents, our life will be left hanging between heaven and earth and cursed. We live in labor and are heavy laden or failed.
Jesus is willingly left hanging between heaven and earth or hung on the cross, so we are not left hanging between heaven and earth, but receive the blessing of Abraham.
Galatians 3:13-14
3:13. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"),
3:14. that the blessing of Abrahammight come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spiritthrough faith.
Jesus gives spiritual blessing too, namely Holy Spirit, so
our lamp keeps on shining. We become five wise virgins and our lamp keeps on shining till Jesus' coming. Holy Spirit is able to perform miracle, the lamp that has been gone out will be lighted, and there is change from failure to success until we meet God when He comes a second time.
God blesses us.
