Matthew 26:69-75is about
Peter denied Jesus.
Peter denied Jesus three times as follows.
- Verse 69-70: Peter denied Jesus of Galilee = denial to the call and election of God.
- Verse 71-72: Peter denied Jesus of Nazareth = rejection to the true teaching and true shepherding.
- Verse 73-75: Peter denied Jesus with swearing and cursing.
ad. 3. Peter denied Jesus with swearing and cursingMatthew 26:73-75
26:73 And a little later those who stood by came up and said to Peter, "Surely you also are one of them, for your speech betrays you."
26:74 Then he began to curse and swear, saying, "I do not know the Man!" Immediately a rooster crowed.
26:75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." So he went out and wept bitterly.Cursing, one is in the ambience of curse.
Galatians 3:13-14
3:13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree"),
3:14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.Jesus was willing to sacrifice until He died on the cross in order to deliver us from the curse of sin, so we need not be in the ambience of curse.
Peter was in the ambience of curse, it means
denial to the sacrifice or cross of Christ.
Matthew 16:21-23
16:21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.
16:22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, "Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!"
16:23 But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men."
Peter had fleshly mind so he rejected the sacrifice of Christ and became same as the devil.
John 8:44
8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
The devil is the father of liars. One sign of rejecting the sacrifice of Christ is lying. Such person can neither be touched by the parents nor pastor nor God.
The facts found in lying are as follows.
- Disobedience to the true teaching.
1 John 2:4
2:4 He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
The liar knows the truth but he does not want to do it.
- Hatred to other people without any cause because of following fleshly will which is not in line with the Word of God.
1 John 4:20
4:20 If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
- Saying false thing or hiding false things.
John 8:44
8:44 "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
Be alert in the relationship between husband and his wife, seeing that Sapphira pleaded Ananias and Adam pleaded Eve.
- Slandering, blaming the right things and justifying the false ones.
- Blaspheming the Word, blaming the true teaching Word.
Revelation 21:27
21:27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Revelation 20:14-15
20:14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
20:15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. The consequence of lying is the name is not written in the Book of Life, so one cannot enter New Jerusalem but being cast to the sea of fire and brimstone in hell.
Ephesians 4:21-25
4:21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:
4:22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,
4:23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
4:24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
4:25 Therefore, putting away lying, "Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor," for we are members of one another. We have to experience the renewal from old man or clay pot to spiritual one as Jesus is, referring to golden pot, so we do not become liar as Satan.
How can we experience the renewal?- Through water baptism.
1 Peter 3:20-21
3:20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.
3:21 There is also an antitype which now saves us––baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
Through water baptism, we have the heart renewal. We get the good conscience that is sincere and honest as the heart of a baby.
If our heart is sincere and honest, our mouth only cries to praise, glorify, and worship God.
One who becomes as a baby will be pleaded by God.
- Through the crowing of rooster.
Matthew 26:75
26:75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him, "Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times." So he went out and wept bitterly.
The rooster’s crowing refers to shepherding Word. It is the true teaching Word preached by a shepherd faithfully, continually, and repetitively to become food and reminder to the congregation.
Peter wept bitterly, referring to heart renewal, namely sincere and honest heart. One who is sincere and honest will confess the truth of the Word.
If we can confess the truth of the Word, we will be able to realize, regret, and confess our sins. The blood of Jesus will cover and reconcile our sins and our name is written in the Book of Life.
- Through fasting prayer.
Mark 2:20-22
2:20 "But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.
2:21 "No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; or else the new piece pulls away from the old, and the tear is made worse.
2:22 "And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins."
Worship prayer is the process of crucifying or tearing the flesh, so we experience heart renewal.
Fasting prayer is the process to hasten the tearing of flesh, so we can have the heart renewal because now we are in a race with the second coming of Jesus which is drawing near.
If our flesh is torn fast, Satan and temptations will be unable to prey.
The heart renewal makes our heart honest and sincere as the heart of dove to contain new wine, namely Holy Spirit from heaven.
The function of Holy Spirit is as follows.
- Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth guiding us into all truth.
John 16:12-13
16:12 "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
16:13 "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
Meaning as follows.
- We are honest about the true teaching Word.
- We live in righteousness, in our deeds and saying.
- The Spirit of Comforter comforts and strengthens us facing hatred without a cause, sorrow, tears, and failure.
John 15:25-27
15:25 "But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, ‘They hated Me without a cause.’
15:26 "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.
15:27 "And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.
Meaning we do not become hopeless or disappointed but we are joyful and we keep hoping in God. Moreover, we can bear witness to glorify God.
- The Spirit of Helper helps us by performing miracles.
John 14:15-17a
14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments.
14:16 "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever––
14:17 "the Spirit of truth,
Physical miracle happens to create something that has not existed yet; impossible things can be made possible; there is beautiful successful future life.
Spiritual miracle happens that we are changed continually until we are perfect as Jesus is and we do not stumble in word. We are lifted up on the clouds saying "Alleluia."
James 3:2
3:2 For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.
God blesses you.
