Matthew 26:47-56 is about JESUS’ ARREST.
In Gethsemane, Jesus suffered in the flesh without any sin even he was arrested by great multitude led by Judas Iscariot. In the last days, the Church must also suffer in the flesh as Jesus has experienced. It is called the time before the persecution done by antichrist.
To face the ambience of Gethsemane, we must watch and pray as well as enter spiritual revival.
Jesus took with Him three chosen disciples to watch and pray, namely:
- James, referring to faith
- Peter, referring to hope
- John, referring to love.
Unfortunately, the three disciples slept. The meaning of
spiritual sleepis as follows:
- Being negligent in watching and praying.
- Being negligent in shepherding.
The consequence is as follows:
- Verse 51-55 -->Peter was wrong using the sword.
Peter cut off the ear of Malchus = Peter destroyed the building of Christ’s body.
- Verse 56 -->The disciples left Jesus and fled.
John ran away being naked. James also left Jesus and fled.
We must be alert.
The measurement of our love to God is when we face Gethsemane.
Ad. 3. James left Jesus and fled.
Matthew 26:5626:56 "But all this was done that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled." Then all the disciples forsook Him and fled.
Meaning as follows:
- The faith decreases.
- Doubt or anxiety.
- Departing the faith as follows:
- Leaving the true teaching Word to turn to false teaching and sin.
- Leaving Jesus to turn to other religion.
Such life is as totally broken mortar pot.
Acts 12:1-2
12:1. Now about that time Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some from the church.
12:2 Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword. James suffered in the flesh until he was murdered with sword; his head was cut off.
As a result, James experienced the increase or revival of spirituality.
The practice of having the increase or the revival of spirituality is as follows:
- Having firm faith which has been tested as a pure gold or the gold pot that had manna. It refers to perfect faith.
I Peter 1:6-7
1:6. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials,
1:7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ,
The perfect faith is the faith which has the work of faith.
James 2:20-22
2:20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?
2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar?
2:22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?
The example of the perfect faith is as follows:
- The faith of Abraham when he had to offer Isaac on the altar.
Isaac refers to something we love or something we are proud of.
- The faith of James who he had to give his soul for God.
We have to give first all things we love or all things we are proud of, and then we can give our soul to God.
- Placing Jesus as the Head(James was willing to be beheaded).
Do not place your own self as the head, meaning we should not prioritize our logic.
Placing Jesus as the Head means as follows:
- Being freed from wolves and birds.
The wolves refer to evil sins causing human to be stingy and greedy.
The birds refer to unclean sins or sins concerning eating-drinking and marrying-being given in marriage.
In shorts, being freed from the wolves and birds means we are freed from evil and unclean sins or we live in holiness.
II Timothy 2:20-21
2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor.
2:21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
The holy servant of God is as gold and silver. The gold and silver are indeed fewer than wood, but they are more expensive than it. The holy servant of God will be employed in the ministry of building the glorious body of Christ.
- The relationship of the body and its head is on the neck.
The neck means worshiping Jesus until our flesh does not sound anymore. The veil is torn at that time, so the Most Holy Place can be seen with the Ark of Covenant inside.
As a result, there is glory of God namely life renewal from mortar pot to gold pot.
I Peter 3:3-6
3:3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward––arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel––
3:4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.
3:5 For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands,
3:6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.
The life renewal begins from obedience as Sarah had.
As a result, the door of her womb was opened, meaning as follows:
- There is guarantee of physical life in the midst of impossibilities. Spiritually, we have heavenly joy.
- The Lord is able to make impossible matters possible; He can solve all problems.
- The door of beautiful and successful future life is opened for us.
It will continue until the door of Heavenly Kingdom is opened for us.
God blesses you.
