Matthew 26:57-68 is about
WITNESS AND TESTIMONY.
Let us now become the witnesses of God and the perfect body of Christ can be formed soon. Otherwise, one will deny the Lord.
There are two kinds of witness and testimony as follows.
- False witness or lying one; in verse 59-63a.
- True witness; in verse 63-66.
Ad. 2. TRUE WITNESS
Matthew 26:63-66
26:63 But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered and said to Him, "I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!"
26:64 Jesus said to him, "It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven."
26:65 Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, "He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy!
26:66 "What do you think?" They answered and said, "He is deserving of death."
The example of the true witness is Jesus Himself. He testified that He was Christ, the Son of Living God, although He had to face persecution and death. We also have to testify that Jesus is Christ, the Son of Living God, whatever risk we have to face.
The Christ means the anointed.
There are three kinds of office that need the anointing, namely Jesus as the King, servant, and human who suffers. Jesus is also the Son of God. The four points are connected to become the cross. In shorts,
bearing witness that Jesus is Christ equals to bearing witness about His cross.
For example, a man who was blind from birth was employed to bear witness.
John 9:1
9:1 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.
"Being blind from birth" means as follows.
- Not having life renewal but living without any control in sins up to the peak of sin, namely sins concerning eating-drinking and marrying-being given in marriage.
- Being unable to worship God or to see Him because of dry spirituality or the heart tends to do evil.
- Being useless, doing nothing.
- Facing impossible matters.
There is no reason for us not being the true witness. It is only about our willingness.
John 9:17,22-23,35,38
9:17 They said to the blind man again, "What do you say about Him because He opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet."
9:22 His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone confessed that He was Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.
9:23 Therefore his parents said, "He is of age; ask him."
9:35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, "Do you believe in the Son of God?"
9:38 Then he said, "Lord, I believe!" And he worshiped Him.The blind man from birth testified that Jesus was a prophet or a human who was anointed. It means he also testified that Jesus was King and servant.
The blind man also testified that Jesus was the Son of God.
In shorts,
he testified about the cross of Jesus and experienced the cross together with Jesus.
The practice of experiencing the cross is as follows.
- John 9:6
9:6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.
"Saliva"is somethingcoming out of Jesus’ mouth.
Meaning we are willing to hear the true teaching Word or the Word that sanctifies us and points the clay of our sins, even we are despised by it.
When the Word points our condition which are dirty because of the clay of our sins, God is giving us His mercy.
- John 9:7
9:7 And He said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.
We only need to obey the true teaching Word whatever risk may come.
The true teaching Word is preached by God only to be practiced, not to be criticized, gossiped, added, or subtracted.
God is giving us His mercy through delivering the true teaching for us.
We are lifting up our hands to God when we are obedient.
As a result, our eyes are opened so we can see our weaknesses and sins. We have to ask God’s forgiveness soon after it and we should not repeat the sins. Afterwards, we can be sent as the servant of righteousness and employed by God in the revival of the latter rain.
Exodus 3:2,10-11
3:2 And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.
3:10 "Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt."
3:11 But Moses said to God, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?"
Feeling great by himself, Moses became a murderer when he served two people. On the contrary, he was employed by God to set the house of Israel free out of Egypt at the time he felt so powerless and had many faults by saying “Who am I?”
- John 9:34-38
9:34 They answered and said to him, "You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?" And they cast him out.
9:35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, "Do you believe in the Son of God?"
9:36 He answered and said, "Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?"
9:37 And Jesus said to him, "You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you."
9:38 Then he said, "Lord, I believe!" And he worshiped Him.
"Being willing to be cast out" means experiencing the sprinkling of blood or suffering in the flesh together with Jesus as if we are left alone.
Do not be afraid at the time we are cast out because of the truth because we are with Jesus.
Jesus has preceded with His being left alone on the cross. Experiencing the sprinkling of blood, we are near Jesus the most. We can see His face and talk to Him.
Numbers 6:25
6:25 The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you;
As a result, we have the shine of the grace of God as follows.
- Hebrews 4:16
4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
The grace helps us in time of need. We only need to wait for His time and He will work for us.
- Ecclesiastes 3:11
3:11He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.
The grace makes all things beautiful in its time.
- Numbers 6:26
6:26 The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace."
The grace renews usfrom carnal men to spiritual ones as Jesus is, from mortar pot to golden one.
The life renewal begins from peaceful heart; there is no anxiety or fear or division or uncleanness. It continues until we are renewed to become as glorious as Jesus is when He comes a second time. We are lifted up on glorious clouds to see Him face to face.
God blesses you.
