Speaker: Rev. Dadang Hadi SantosoMatthew 6:1-4
6:1 "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.
6:2 "Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
6:3 "But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
6:4 "that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. The Lord teaches us to serve God with our giving. Why do we have to give?
- Giving means releasing us from the lust of money or riches.
Matthew 6:21-23
6:21 "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
6:22 "The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light.
6:23 "But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
The lust of money can make our heart evil, our eyes dark, and our deeds evil as well as dark.
The facts found in it are as the sins Judas Iscariot has done as follows.
- He steals the possession of God.
- He lies.
- He betrays and sells Jesus for thirty pieces of silver.
Consequently, he falls in the darkest darkness, lives in curses and tears, and perishes forever.
- Formerly, Moses built Tabernacle through the offering as a service to God. God trusts us to minister to Him for building the perfect body of Christ through our giving or offering to Him now.
Exodus 25:1-2,8
25:1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:
25:2 "Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring Me an offering. From everyone who gives it willingly with his heart you shall take My offering.
25:8 "And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.
On the contrary, not giving means an egoism or self interest.
Jude 1:12
1:12 These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots;
The egoism is a spot in the ministry of building the perfect body of Christ. This spot must be thrown away.
The signs found in an egoistic person are as follows.
- As the marshes of muddy water. He only wants to receive the water without flowing it to other places.
Isaiah 14:23
14:23 "I will also make it a possession for the porcupine, And marshes of muddy water; I will sweep it with the broom of destruction," says the LORD of hosts.
He will go toward Babylon and become the heap of sin, namely falling and rising in sins up to the peak or the sins concerning eating-drinking and marrying-being given in marriage.
- As a leech.
Proverbs 30:15-16
30:15 The leech has two daughters––Give and Give! There are three things that are never satisfied, Four never say, "Enough!":
30:16 The grave, The barren womb, The earth that is not satisfied with water––And the fire never says, "Enough!"
The leech lives from sucking blood. The facts found in it are as follows.
- Taking something he does not possessed. It means greediness and stinginess.
- Following Jesus with the purpose to seek for physical things only.
He will goes down to Hades. He will be dry and dead in his spirituality; his life is never satisfied.
- As a goat.
Matthew 25:33-34, 40-42
25:33 "And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
25:34 "Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
25:40 "And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
25:41 "Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:
25:42 ‘for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;
The goat means life who does not want to give and visit the weakest parts of the body of Christ that need although he has already known it, has ability to help, and the Word has stirred his heart.
He will be judged and enter in eternal torment forever.
The egoistic cannot be used by God for building the perfect body of Christ. For example, only Judas Iscariot from among the twelve disciples, who have been called and chosen, cannot enter in the perfect body of Christ.
John 13:10
13:10 Jesus said to him, "He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you." John 15:3
15:3 "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
How can we be sanctified from the evil heart so that we do not become egoistic?
We must be sanctified by true teaching Word.
Hebrews 4:12-13
4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two–edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
4:13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
The true teaching Word is able to sanctify us from the sins of Judas Iscariot, so we can give and enter in the ministry of the building of the perfect body of Christ. Riches or poverty does not determine whether we can give or not, but the holy heart.
There are some things we must heed in order to be able to give as follows.
- Do not be hypocritical.
Matthew 6:1
6:1 "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.
Hypocrisy in the giving happens when one gives in order to be seen or praised by other people. Consequently, God will not give him the reward, but judgment.
The right attitude is we give secretly because it is only for God. As a result, He will give us the reward.
- In righteousness.
1 John 3:17-18
3:17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
3:18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
It means as follows.
- We are righteous in our giving because of the encouragement of the Word of God, not of necessity, so there is joy and willing heart when we give, even we can feel that it is more blessed to give than to receive.
- We give something we have gotten in legal ways.
- We give something we have had, not the thing we have not had yet.
Mark 8:4-5
8:4 Then His disciples answered Him, "How can one satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?"
8:5 He asked them, "How many loaves do you have?" And they said, "Seven."
God does not look at the quantity of our gift but the seriousness and willingness of our heart.
The examples are as follows.
- A poor widow.
Mark 12:41-44
12:41 Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much.
12:42 Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans.
12:43 So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury;
12:44 "for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood."
She gives of her poverty or her whole livelihood.
The results are as follows.
- God accepts her offering that pleases Him.
2 Corinthians 8:12
8:12 For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have.
Philippians 4:17-18
4:17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account.
4:18 Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet–smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God.
- The gift becomes a sweet-smelling aroma before God, so the curse is changed into blessing. The egoistic live in the curses. On the contrary, God will pour out the rain of blessings in our life if we can give, although our gift is only a little.
Genesis 8:20-21
8:20 Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
8:21 And the LORD smelled a soothing aroma. Then the LORD said in His heart, "I will never again curse the ground for man's sake, although the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again destroy every living thing as I have done.
- We get a great gain from God, namely the clean and bright fine linen.
Philippians 4:17
4:17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account.
The great gain means the wings of a great eagle to fly us to the wilderness which is far away from the presence of the antichrist. We are preserved by God while antichrist is reigning over the world.
- Mary.
John 12:1-3
12:1 Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead.
12:2 There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.
12:3 Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.
Mary anoints the feet of Jesus with the oil of spikenard costs three hundred denarii. It means the wage of working for one year. She can give her whole life to God. It means she believes and fully entrusts her life only to God. We can confess that we live by the mercy of God, not by our riches.
Mark 14:8-9
14:8 "She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial.
14:9 "Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her."
One who can give to God will be remembered and cared by Him. It means all our offering to Him will never be gone because God remembers and sees them. He also remembers and cares us.
The manifestation of His care to us is as follows.
- The Lord remembers and cares us who are as powerless baby.
Isaiah 49:14-16
49:14 But Zion said, "The LORD has forsaken me, And my Lord has forgotten me."
49:15 "Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you.
49:16 See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me.
We are cared and protected directly by God in the midst of our weaknesses and impossible things.
- The Lord remembers and cares us who are only as wind and passing shadow.
Psalm 144:3-4
144:3 LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You are mindful of him?
144:4 Man is like a breath; His days are like a passing shadow.
Psalm 8:4-5
8:4 What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?
8:5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor.
The Lord remembers and cares us to sanctify us little by little so that we are as glorious as He is.
- The Lord remembers and cares us when He comes a second time; we can enter in New Jerusalem forever.
Luke 23:41-43
23:41 "And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong."
23:42 Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom."
23:43 And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."
God blesses you.
